Spring Banquet 2009

Following social hour, dinner, and guest speakers, several members were recognized for their contributions during the last election year, including Martha Mikko who in addition to being a leader in the Bath Township Democratic community, did an outstanding job as Spring Banquet Fundraising Chair. The evening was rounded out by a silent auction and music by Ray Kamalay.

Special Volunteers in 2008

In addition to selecting Bruce McAttee for the Phil Hart Award, the Board recognized the following volunteers for their contributions during the year.

  • Sue Eby - for moving the County Party forward in a big way, strengthening membership participation and the Democrats visibility and influence in the County and within the Michigan Party.
  • Marth Mikko - for providing the leadership & organization which prompted Democrat candidates and successful campaigns in Bath Township, now a Democrat stronghold in the County.
  • Jim Sedick - for long hours establishing & staffing the 2008 campaign office, pre-paying & distributing campaign signs, and taking on numerous other important organizational details in Clinton County, State, and National campaigns.
  • Candace Winslow - for website development in 2008.
Thank you to All. We appreciate the contributions of all volunteers and donors throughout the year. Working together is what makes public service so effective and working together makes a community.

Special Guests

This year, Bruce McAttee was awarded the 2008 Phil Hart Award. Bruce McAttee was recognized by the Clinton County Dems for his support for labor and middle class political causes for many years.

Mark Schauer* was the Keynote Speaker at the Clinton County Dems Spring Banquet held at the Prairie Creek Banquet Center in DeWitt. It was a real honor to hear Congressman Schauer in Clinton County. His message of focusing on networking and financially supporting Democrats was well-received. Friday, May 8, 2009.

* Congressman Schauer unseated Republican Tim Walberg in the 7th Congressional District race in November. Walberg is an extreme right-wing reactionary who received campaign donations from as far away as Clinton County. However, through grassroots organizing and incredible work, Mark Schauer took back the 7th District in 2008.

Mitchell Rivard, President of the MSU Young Democrats was another guest speaker. He talked about how he became interested in politics at a young age and how his group's membership hopes to contribute to the County, as well as to make a difference nationally. Mitch has recently co-founded the Ingham County Young Democrats group. He was joined at the Spring Banquet by several other MSU student activists and friends.
