Industry & Public Health

"Sustainable" economic activities are those types of industry that cannot be outsourced, that require skill and self-satisfaction, that do not do not cause irreparable damage to our air, soil, water, and children.
industry - jobs, transportation, training

For employment, Clinton County residents have traditionally relied upon farming and transporting residents to Lansing. As automotive, state government, and many university jobs dwindle, we will need to create industry or become poorer (reduced population and reduced income).

As progressive Democrats, we seek to:
  • identify and support industries that bring income and knowledge into the area, rather than siphoning out our resources
  • expand the diversity and strength of our economy by meeting global demands for safe, sustainable products and services
  • support local entrepreneurs and independent business owners who understand and care about their long-term effects on the community
  • avoid big corporations and multinational companies with "expand, exploit, and abandon" histories
  • invest in infrastructure and public services that attract and retain the best and brightest young workers
  • grow industry and jobs that are sustainable - not causing irreparable damage to our air, soil, water, and children - even if it requires short-term sacrifice
public health - air & water quality, health services

Many in Clinton County are unaware of Clinton County's position as waste repository for the greater-Lansing area.

As progressive Democrats, we seek to:
  • reduce the amount of waste produced and dumped in our communities
  • adopt technology, economic systems, and policies that make Clinton County the healthiest and most satisfying place to work, learn, and play
  • invest in infrastructure and activities that contribute to healthy lifestyles
  • insist that people and industries pay the real costs of their own consumption, production, transportation, and marketing -- rather than passing those costs to the public or to future county residents
We seek to:
  • give education, jobs, and healthcare to the needy as their welfare indirectly affects our culture and the quality of life of future generations
  • build systems, activities, and opportunities that sustain and enrich families
