Clinton County and indeed the state of Michigan had candidates with outstanding qualifications -- from Jocelyn Benson over to the township level. Yet the Democratic Party in general did not attract voters. The loss is hard to take. The Republican elects are pushing policies that will keep Michigan stuck in the mire at best and in many more cases are dangerous to public health and our young people's futures. 

Voters need information and many need it presented multiple times in terms that simplify how the issues affect them and their community. Rationale and moral voters do not intentionally vote for incompetency. Yet at the township level, they were offered candidates who are honest & skilled at budgeting projections and still chose a candidate who is a lier & whose votes are now seriously endangering our county's finances. 

Even in Clinton County where many are born into and blindly accepting of Republican Party politics, it seems astounding that they would choose a Secretary of State from a party that tries to block voting from those whose addresses are expired because of recent foreclosures -- even though their ID are valid. Clearly residents did not understand the incredible opportunity they had in voting for a knowledgeable voting rights advocate and national recognized expert on state drivers registration and records. 

Let's pray there are enough Democrats and forward-thinking Independents around during the next 4 years to keep Snyder and other Republicans from dismantling our environmental health regulations, our consumer protections, and our public services.
