2008 Election

Clinton County Dems is proud to of its Democratic candidate slate for Fall 2008. Overall, there were gains in seating progressive candidates in Clinton County. Our local Dems organziation will strive to increase the number of Democratic candidates in local races. Obama won in Clinton County so we know there are people who are willing to listen to new ideas and to elect fresh faces.

Clinton County Commission

District 7: Terry Link was the right candidate for Clinton County. During his first 2 years, he had a tremendously positive impact on the Commission and on improving the outlook for the County. He had built a relationship with other commissioners and was demonstrating his sensitivity to resident issues. One notable achievement during Terry's term was bi-partisan acceptance of his initiative to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 2% per year during the next five years. This will mean long term financial savings in addition to immediate health benefits for residents. Unfortunately, his opponent, Adam Stacey, wanted to win so badly, that he told people that Terry had raised their taxes -- something that neither Terry Link nor any of the Republican Commissioners have the power to do! -- much less the desire. Property taxes are based upon property values. Let's hope Stacey's strategy is not to erode property values in Clinton County.

District 6: Eileen Heideman won her bid for the Commission. She will represent a diverse population including a large number of MSU students in the north end of the County. Eileen and her husband Howard Heideman worked hard during the campaign and deserve a lot of credit for their long-term support of the Democratic Party.

5th Commission District: Doug Earle was our choice for ensuring Dewitt area residents' concerns about safety, airport noise and traffic, and family recreation opportunities. Though he worked hard and he increased the Democratic presence in Dewitt, he could not overcome the well-known challenger. Doug Earle has long-term interest in public health and safety and strong work experience that will help him understand our local issues. Let's work hard for Doug's next election!

Bath Township

Local residents united to push a positive, progressive, and professional governance. More on this unprecedented number of Democratic challengers...
Newcomers!
Tom Schneider - Supervisor
Jeff Garrity - Treasurer
Paula Clark - Trustee
Rick Curtis - Trustee
Walter Pett - Trustee
Leon Puttler - Trustee

Other Local Township & County Candidates

DeWitt Township: Max Calder won a Trustee position handily. Residents are getting an experienced and dedicated individual to represent the office. Unfortunately, newcomer Andon Pogoncheff was not seated. We'll look for Andon to try again in the next round.

Duplain Township: Though he beat out another candidate, Charles Klarich was still short just a dozen votes from the encumbant. This district had a 70% turnout, so there is clearly room to grow here.

Ovid Township: Democrat Nancy Hughson won a Trustee slot, having went up against two other candidates.

In Victor Township:

Dean Butler - Supervisor
